In its natural habitat this fast grower can be found along lakes, rivers and wetlands. Here in Minnetonka you can find it just about anywhere. A silver maple is a large, adaptable shade tree with interesting peeling bark, red spring flowers and a broad rounded crown. It performs best when planted on a shoreline or wetland edge or in a large open site. Because of its fast growth rate, pruning when young is essential.
